Iwate Rokando Cave

"Rokando Cave" is located in Sumita Town, Iwate Prefecture. Extending 880 meters from the entrance, the cave opens up into a mysterious dome-shaped chamber measuring 50 meters in circumference and 60 meters high, where the breathtaking "Amanoiwato Falls" cascades down 29 meters. This living limestone cave continues to grow even today, enchanting all who visit. Preserved in as natural a state as possible, it is known as an "adventure-style limestone cave," offering different routes to match each visitor’s level of exploration. Enjoy the changing beauty of the seasons and the sense of natural wonder that appeals to both children and adults. Guided tours explaining the cave’s history and geological features are also available and highly recommended.

Events Deepening Connections with Nature and Wildlife
"ZOOMO Morioka City Zoo," located in Morioka City, Iwate, has long been cherished as a place of relaxation since its opening. Set on a vast site that makes use of the varied terrain of satoyama hills, the zoo actively engages in the conservation of animals and natural environments as well as the welfare of both people and animals, while housing and exhibiting about 300 animals of roughly 60 species and hosting interactive events. Nature walks are also possible, including searching for traces of wild animals such as Japanese serow and squirrels, and observing insects and plants. To support comfortable movement across the large, sloped grounds, the single-rider scooter "ZOOMO-BILE" (no license required, for ages 18 and over) has also been introduced.

A Tourist Hub With Local Cuisine and a Variety of Facilities
This roadside station is near the nature-rich Hei-gawa River, roughly halfway between Jodogahama, a scenic spot in Sanriku, and Morioka City, Iwate. It also houses a grass event plaza, Dragon Square, and the Yakushi Lacquer Craft Museum, making it a place that people of all ages can enjoy. It's also recommended as a rest stop during sightseeing, as it serves local delicacies made with local ingredients, including log-grown maitake mushrooms and black soybeans, and is a great place to sample local produce from the Kawai area of Miyako City.

This rest house is near Jodogahama Beach, a scenic spot in Miyako City, Iwate Prefecture.
